A native of El Paso, Texas, Dr. Tony Gamboa always had a love for sports. He grew up playing soccer and other sports which became key drivers for his success in high school and beyond. His passion for soccer and love for helping others was molded by his childhood experiences and as a result he began coaching youth sports at a local YMCA during high school and continued through college as a means of giving back to the community.
Tony completed his undergraduate education in his hometown at the University of Texas at El Paso in 1997. He subsequently received his Medical Doctorate degree in 2001 from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Following his medical education he trained in Phoenix, Arizona where he completed a 4-year specialty in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He completed an executive MBA from the McComb’s School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin in order to help bridge the business and clinical needs of a rapidly growing practice.
Dr. Gamboa’s clinical experience includes services as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist for 9 years before refocusing his energy into developing a Post-Acute and Transitional Care practice. Building from experience as acute care physicians, Dr. Gamboa and his partners have created a company properly positioned to help serve the needs of the complex patient population currently requiring transitional care needs.
Since his arrival to Austin, he has enjoyed a rapid integration into the local culture and medical community. He has served as a member of several medical staff positions as the Chair for Internal Medicine and chaired multiple committees including PNT and Utilization Review. His current focus is to help facilitate EPC’s evolution to position the company at the leading edge of Transitional Care medicine as well as leading the organization into a value based practice environment.
He enjoys his time off with his family, which includes his beautiful wife Julie, and his two Children Riley and Brennan. His long-term goals include plans to remain a vital player in the Austin healthcare market and to contribute in the community at large as an individual and a leader in business and medicine.
